Port Douglas is an unique and relaxing venue, however, accommodation choices are fairly limited especially at the higher end of the spectrum. Yes, there are some great high end air b&bs and private apartments but when it comes to a proper hotel, the Grand Mirage still holds it's position as the best hotel in the area despite it age. It has been recently refurbished and the design and layout have stood the test of time. Try to score a ground floor room that opens to the delightful pool, you will truly appreciated the facilities of the property.
F&B is generally good but the fine dining restaurant, Harrison, is great in terms of service and food quality.
