December 25th - Christmas Eve Beach Party, Haad Rin, Koh Phangan, Thailand
December 31th - New Year Beach Party, Haad Rin, Koh Phangan, Thailand

Recently there are about 20,000 to 30,000 people attending every month at this Koh Phangan beach party. It is of course known as the Full Moon Party. International and Thai DJโ€™s are entertaining the party until the crowd go wild. Paint yourself in UV colours and let your body lose control. The DJโ€™s play all kinds of music; techno, trance, goa, drum nโ€™ bass, dub, reggae, commercial hits, house etc. on about 15 sound systems along Haad Rin beach. There are also many small tables on the beach where you can sit down with your friends or meet new friends from all corners of the globe. You can order drinks and food from the restaurants and bars next to the Haad Rin Nok beach (Sunrise Beach). Its not just a party, it is monthly Haad Rinโ€™s dance music festival which is famous worldwide, with everything from drum and bass to full-on psy-trance.

Twenty years ago a few touring backpackers happened upon a small island in the southern gulf of Thailand named Koh Phangan. The island was beautiful and virtually untouched by outsiders so they decided to stay and explore. They ventured over coconut covered hills down to the southern most tip and gazed out over the soft white sand beaches below.

And just know that the full moon party scene is not quite the same as it used to be. There's Half Moon, Full Moon and even Black Moon parties. Packages are now available to save you the hassle of organising anything except yourself.

A relatively new addition to the nightlife scene, Surat Thani's half moon parties seem to have been started in response to the demise of Samui's own Rocky Bay beach parties (due to an increase in luxury property development in the Choeng Mon area). Saying that though, the Half Moon people go to great lengths to offer an attractive package to counterbalance the longish trip over to the mainland and provide a viable alternative to the Full Moon Party.

For around 1,800 Baht, revellers can be collected from their hotel, transferred by coach and ferry to mainland Surat Thani, then whisked off to a secluded beach for an all-inclusive night of fun and frolics. A generous seafood barbecue and all you can drink alcohol are thrown in alongside, of course, a night of house and techno courtesy of local and international DJ's. The price also includes the trip back to Samui the next day.

For a little extra there's onsite bungalows available for anyone who can't last the night. For more info visit Travel Solutions, next to the Ark Bar, North Chaweng, or call Toto on 077 210 198.
